Gold Medal / Mundus Vini / 2019 / Germany

Over 800 years of experience in the wine sector
The history of the Roqueta family is the story of a family of winemakers. The origins of our wine-making activity date back to the 12th century, specifically to the year 1199. Our heritage is closely linked to local history in the region of Bages, which is located in the province of Barcelona. In Bages, vineyards have been cultivated since Roman times. According to the oldest documents that have been preserved to date, in 1199, wine was already being produced at the Masia Roqueta farmhouse which is located in the township of Santa Maria d’Horta d’ Avinyó. Nowadays, the same farmhouse continues to display vestiges of over eight centuries dedicated to winemaking, such as presses, stone vats and barrels.
At the end of the 19th century, Ramon Roqueta Torrentó laid the foundations so that his family’s activity would take on the dimensions of a business. He did this in 1898 when he moved to Manresa, the capital of the Bages region, and founded Ramon Roqueta (DO Catalunya), the first of the family’s wineries. Later on, the family founded more wineries; Abadal Winery (DO Pla de Bages) in 1983 and Lafou Winery (DO Terra Alta), in 2007. Today, the headquarters of Roqueta Origen are located in Santa Maria d ‘Horta d’ Avinyó, on the grounds of the old family farmhouse.
A love of wine and total dedication to winemaking have been passed on and have thrived for generations and continue to flourish today, driven by a passion to express the identity of each of our wineries and the regions where our vines grow. We strive to combine respect for tradition with a vocation for innovation.
